FROM COMMODITIES TO NICHE PREMIUM GOODS: UKRAINE OFFERS A GREAT SELECTION OF ORGANIC PRODUCTS
Ukraine is quickly developing its potential as an organic producer and exporter. This country can offer a wide range of organic products: from commodity cereals, legumes, and oil crops to processed food and grocery, from premium quality fruits, vegetables, berries, and nuts to wild collection, honey, and bee products.
WHAT STANDS BEHIND UKRAINE’S ORGANIC POTENTIAL?
According to the Research Institute of Organic Agriculture (FIBL) and IFOAM, the area of organic agricultural lands in Ukraine is 289.000 hectares. This makes Ukraine #13 in Europe and #24 globally. Besides, Ukraine has 570.000 hectares of organic lands for wild collection! In total, it makes impressive 859.000 hectares of lands certified for organic use.

There are 304 certified organic producers and 167 organic exporters in Ukraine. Ukraine is among world’s top 4 organic cereal producers alongside with the European Union, Turkey, and the Russian Federation.

Ukraine exports the absolute majority – 95% – of its organic products to the European Union. Currently, already 17 foreign markets benefit from Ukrainian organic commodities and food. Among them are the Netherlands, Germany, United Kingdom, Italy, Austria, Poland, Switzerland, Belgium, Czech Republic, Bulgaria, Hungary, USA, Canada, Australia, and UAE. Ukraine’s organic exports reached $120 million.
95% of Ukrainian organic produce is exported to the Europen Union
Ukraine has approved its organic legislation in 2018 an in August 2019 it has come into force. Law of Ukraine on the basic principles and requirements for organic production, trade, and labeling of organic products is fully harmonized with the European Union organic legislation.
